And every horror story is a comedy in search of a joke.

Is every comedy a story so horrific that we have to skip scared and go straight into laughter?

An occasional gaffe is sure to provide a respite to all of our weeping wounds. 🤷

Your post reminds me that I've always wanted to be Joe Frank. He was magic in person. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgWYugKpLBM&list=PL0EMMfnFeaULMDu6E1cxesG5W3LPpD_rj

Dang, I fly out of town Wednesday morning for a week. Powell's Beaverton isn't too far from my house. Maybe next time.

Cool, I think I will come down here for this. It works with my schedule. Thanks for letting us know Chuck. I hope you both have an interesting conversation about writing.

We really need to incentivize prosecutors to find the truth, rather than incentivizing convictions. There are far too many wrongful conviction stories. Check out The Innocence Project/Josh Dubin if you want to be furious.

Is this the secret Science Fiction book you hinted at in workshop?

With Spalding Grey, was he generally trying to make a point or was he telling stories where a point is being made but the point is irrelevant - it's the story of making a point.

I look forward to checking out the comics’ clips you posted. Have you ever watched a Mike Birbiglia show? In contrast to a series of disconnected jokes that often end with a callback to the best joke of the bunch, Mike’s shows are usually long form narratives. They’re funny along the way, sometimes profound, but it’s not your typical stand-up act. He has a podcast, called ‘working it out,’ which confession I don’t listen to anymore because my work and kids has me too busy, but he invites other comics on to practice jokes, edit them, so if you listen over time, you’ll hear him revisit jokes from several shows before… i remember when his guest was Ira Glass or Pete Holmes, they often really dig into how to make a joke better, or finding the part of the story to focus on… anyhow, your post recalled all this and after I watch/listen to Spalding and Tomlin, I’m going to queue up Mike Birbiglia’s podcast

I saw a promo for the Amanda Knox event recently and thought “Oh sh*t! I can’t believe he used that photo.” Seems you can’t believe it either. And I’m itching for a good homework assignment.
