Did you have a nice Easter? Friends had a great idea: First they hid eggs for the kids -- lots of eggs in a big wooded park -- then they had the kids hide mini-booze bottles for the adults. The kids had more fun hiding the booze.
I haven't sent any. If you have a good address to ship to, I can pick up some Tim Tams at the local Brit shop and send them your way! If there is anything on your Brit snack wish list, I can get those sent too!
Yeah I sent the Essay to Modern Love shortly after i read it at the Slush Pile and made some small edits. The new essay is a focus on one event like you suggested but I may also submit that one to Modern Love. Monica told me her first Essay was rejected by Modern Love but her second got in so I'm taking both of your advice.
To clarify i dod meet my goal and submitted to Modern Love in November and was rejected right before Valentine's Day. So i revised the Essay. Read that version at slush pile and revised it again and submitted it.
Meh, I already paid. I think it’s worth it but I guess… I won’t when it comes up again? Anyways, I’ve got a whole pile of books I’m working through that’ve been gathering dust. I’m in the thick of the Buddhist sutras and interpretations of them.
Yes. There’s a dusty copy of Icelandic myths on my shelf that I’ve been putting on the back burner for too long. Hope your path leads to some excellent death metal.
I discovered Dungeon Crawler Carl on Saturday and read like 1100 pages so far (Book1, 2, and Part of 3). I am working on something to bring to the Slush Pile. Maybe Ill make it down 2 weeks from tomorrow. I hope you and everyone else had a Happy Easter.
All right, but please note: the “content” you delivered far exceeded the subscription cost.
Providentially, I been watching the new Seth Rogen show, The Studio, which inspired me to seek out the Pat Hobby stories. I think I only ever read the one where he was mistaken for Orson Welles, but I was curious how his time on studio lots compared to the hijinks on The Studio.
Reading? I’ve been working my way through the ghost story issue of Conjunctions #83. Some stick with me! Some I start skimming after a couple pages. I’m looking forward to starting Stephen Graham Jones’ new vampire/weird west novel.
Do you have any recommendations for stories set in the Gulf/Middle East? Looks like I’ll be living in Abu Dhabi for another year.
Yes! I’ve signed the contract and told my book club friends, but was waiting to post about it until after the official announcement.
I’m very happy. But now I also hope to finish all my novella ideas (and/or write a novel or two) for when it’s published and someone asks me if I got anything longer, I can say yes, of course, here, take your pick.
But, also, am just feeling proud and enjoying this win.
Thank you for reading and enjoying my story. I’m at a loss of words, they all seem inadequate - but “satisfied” is close, “thrilled” is close, “delighted and overjoyed” is close, that you and Michael liked my story and chose to include it in Silent Nightmares.
Your timing is perfect, Chuck. I’ve spent too much time recently doing everything except writing, with the intention of gaining MORE time to do just that. It’s made me feel empty. I miss both the lighting of inspiration and the process of refinement. But I decided last night that my plan can wait, the world can wait. Because it IS the last big dream, isn’t it? What would life be without one? So I’m spending today with my old friends the pencil and the pad. No other work than that. Thanks again.
I’ve paid far more money for far dumber shit. Absorbing your posts has made me a better writer and introduced me to some exceptionally talented people. Worth every nickel.
The secret writer concept is fascinating. My approach was different. When I got serious about pursuing the dream a couple years ago, I told EVERYONE about it - maybe because the added pressure of feeling like I’d let people down serves as a motivator. I do the same thing with (insert audacious/absurd trail running goal here). Public commitment eliminates the opportunity to bail.
Are you suggesting that the articles currently behind the paywall will become available for free? Currently a paid subscriber and been one awhile.
It's been a while since I put much behind the paywall. For now please enjoy those, but I'd rather you spend money on books. Like paper books.
If you want to pay for the chance to chat here, that's great. And I can send you photos of my feet, too.
Writing helps me stay off the smack. Thank you, Mr Palahniuk!

I had a nice lazy Easter! Sounds like you and your friends had a blast lol! Hopefully Egg got an egg with treats!
I think my email has been filtering out my stack emails. I am so behind!
Did you remember to send me more Brit cookies? Just asking.

Lots to catch up on.
Did you send to Modern Love?

Update: Rejected in 22 days from Modern Love so on to the next project. I'll submit the essay to somewhere else.

I feel you. Lately I've been meeting people versed in Nordic Eddas. I'm swamped.

I think you need this about now..

Shit was so gross but the commercials were great.

I just spent several minutes looking this up.
Just click the link!
Lolol. Oh so dark lol
I am fearful that previously I made the coffee joke, you made the Jean Luc counter and I got confused. We have become a loop.
I just picked up Bunny from the library today. Even though you didn't like it, my curiosity got the best of me.
Hey, it's a good voice.
Let's play this at Chelsea's funeral:

I think her ghost would definitely be on board with us Rickrolling her funeral. 😂
And YOU got to see Cabaret.
I did! It was spectacular. Orville Peck owned that role.

❤️
I got way too much out of workshop at way too low a cost. This subscription is my tithing to keep karma monsters from pouncing.
Welllllllll I’m already a paid sub and I like it that way 😁

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is my next read. I can’t wait!
Did you know you got into Silent Nightmares? Good job. I'll be posting the full roster soon.
Yes! I’ve signed the contract and told my book club friends, but was waiting to post about it until after the official announcement.

I’ve been screenshotting Michael’s posts about the project and sending them to friends and colleagues. “6 out of 2138!!!” That’s me! I’m one of the 6!
Bah! I just shelled out my $40... I've been gobbling up all all the free posts so it was time I paid my dues!
Thank you. And I'm still going to push you to buy used copies of the books that will spark your writing.
Youre a good guy, Chuck!
And no, i'd like to keep my paid subscription. Its the least way to show support to my favorite writer. Love.
Aching for the day that Nami Mun publishes another book, if she ever does.
And, despite your genius attempts at reverse-reverse psychology, the paid subscription will remain
