I hope I’m wrong on this one…
For the past twenty years, if you received a package from me at least one part of its contents came from a shop called Gold Door. From the boxed incense/candle sets to mercury glass ornaments to brass bells to worry stones, it all hearkened back to the hippy-dippy stores of my childhood. The store’s stock buyers, Lars and Lorie, even went to trade shows and found thousands of carved stone animals for me. If you’ve got a bookmark with a carved animal, chances are the animal arrived via Gold Door.
Between the lockdown and multiple burglaries over this winter they’ve had a tough row to hoe. News is they closed for good this past Friday.
What’s more, the staff always let my dog, Egg, run off leash in the store. They always had treats for her, and she dragged me there once a week.
They will be missed. I wish all my friends there a bright and exciting future.
Damn that’s tough to hear. It’s the worst when one of your favorite small businesses closes it’s doors. There is a shop in KC called It’s A Beautiful Day and they’ve been around as long as I can remember. Nice staff, random objects, refurbished stereo systems, records, t-shirts -- all that. Basically any the cool stuff you could want. They operate strictly as cash only and point you to an ATM at a cell phone shop if you try to pay with a card. I’ve always wondered if there’s some sort of money laundering tied in, but not my business!
NO oh my god I'm heartbroken
