I have loved reading everyone’s Baby Talk submissions—I think reading them out loud makes them better! Some really dark ones in there and I definitely have a favorite or two who I hope win🙌
I hope the film adaptation does lead to a new run of mass-market paperbacks. ‘The Ice at the Bottom of the World’ is one of the few book recommendations of yours I haven’t yet had chance to check out, and I’m eager to see what’s in store.
I loved having to think about words in a creative way with the Baby Talk exercise. There were many places where inventing a word that a kid would say, instead of using the right one, served the story better, and that was fun!
Will Patton, Will Patton is on the Richard project and was in the Jesus' Son movie. And he voiced the Jesus's Son audiobook. Will's got his paw on the pulse it would seem
Just ordered The Ice at the Bottom of the World, and funny enough, I found The Pugilist at Rest the other day at Goodwill. Reading the first story today after you mentioned it, I instantly saw why you/Tom recommend it. Great voicing. A current of propulsive storytelling.
Well, we wish the ICE is at the bottom of the world.

Here's where Baby Talk can lead to... baby need a diaper change?

Ordered Junot Diaz, John Cheever, and Charles Baxter short stories last week. Still need to get Airships.
Should probably also reread Ice at the Bottom of the World, and Jesus Son.
We’re only allowed to post one submission/comment in the ‘Baby Talk’ post, right?
People seem to have jumped that barrier already.
In that case I shall also jump the barrier

Forcing my coworkers to listen to me read mine aloud behind the nurses station was practically reward enough
At Freightliner we used to declare "Talk like Fran 'The Nanny' Drescher Day." Anything to beat the boredom.
I read The Harvest right before I checked this post. I read everyday before I sit down to write. It is my morning prayer.
Loved it!
I have a few “you have to read this book” books, and The Harvest is one. Song for the Unraveling of the World is on that list, and Choke.

I’m getting both on Friday. Excited to read them.
Reading chapter XX of The day of the Locust at the Cinderella bar almost made me give up the baby talk challenge...So fucking brillant.
