The Homework
Watch The Douchiest Movie Ever
In Terms of Toxic Masculinity…
Fight Club couldn’t hold a candle to Animal House, yet the latter offers a plethora of storytelling lessons. During my time at the University of Oregon the city fathers of Eugene, Oregon agonized over demolishing the building used for the exteriors of the John Landis frat house (Plotspoiler: They tore it down), and everyone in that college town had a story related to the movie shoot. My first real reporting job was for the Cottage Grove Sentinel, in the small town where the parade sequence was filmed.
For now, your task is to watch the movie. In a few days I’ll ask a question about some core element of the story. This isn’t a trivial question so much as it’s about the function of one unexpected scene as it relates to the journey of the overall story.
Make sense? For now watch the flick.
The $500 Folio Society edition of The Great Gatsby is at stake. Look for me to post the big question at some awkward hour.

Note how both 'Fight Club' and 'Animal House' feature gloved sex. And a big, crunchy house. What's with that?
Guess it’s time to dust off my toga and buy a twelve pack.
May the force be with you!
