I've been listening to a lot of Brett Easton Ellis interviews and he often talked abou his writing experience as meeting a new friend. I don't know why people want to use AI to write. AI robs every bit of fun in writing.
Hey, Chuck, I've got my Santa suit armed and ready (albeit with a few alterations and accompaniments). I'll be making the three-hour trip, blasting "It's a Holly Jolly Christmas" the whole way and getting into the chaotic spirit. PS, if you need help moving balloons or helium tanks, or people wanting to go to the event, I have a big Chevy Suburban, which I have taken the baby seat out of and can carry up to 8 people and any and all helium tanks and balloons responsibly, or 20-plus Santas and some helium irresponsibly. Ian MacKaye (co-founder of Dischord Records and frontman of Minor Threat and Fugazi). Due to his DIY ethic, he refused to work with major labels or corporations. All shows by his bands were always all-ages and with a nominal ticket price ($5-$7). He also refused to sell merch (t-shirts, etc.). Only albums.
To your note on using AI in art, I wholeheartedly agree and have the same questions as you. Why would someone want to steal all the fun from themselves, maybe to make a quick buck? Maybe they just want to make friends, or earn accolades?
Thankfully, though, it would seem there are still a lot of us writers/artists in the world that belive in the act of creation, that the act itself is the soul purpose of the creation itself, and the money, accolades or whatver may come from it after are nice, but at the end of the day I know for me, maybe you and many like us, creating is primary to our being. I believe "Content creation" (can we kill that word now...content...I shudder) really ruined the idea of art for people. Maybe even for some really talented, well-meaning artistic people. Capitalism is a succubus, feeding on us all, cooing in our ears with the promise of easy success, prestige, and money. But I do believe there is a movement happening, albeit on a small scale globally, and we even see the youth wanting, pleading—fighting for their minds, hearts, and souls back—the minds, hearts, and souls we sold off at some point, maybe around 2010, maybe— it's hard to determine, but easy to feel in our body's and quaking, aching minds. I have a feeling Fight Club is about to have a very big resurgence.
You know, I was fully expecting to be outranged when I finally got to learn what had to be left out of In the City of Shy Hunters, but I'm going to have to side with the publisher on this one. That's...yikes.
But yeah, if you can write that scene well, you can write pretty much anything, I suppose.
Anyway, that book absolutely wrecked me, in the best possible way. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I read it and probably never will.
