One of the biggest novels of the ’80s was Heartburn by Nora Ephron. It was so ubiquitous that my college professors read excerpts aloud to us as lectures in how to write.
Tomorrow I’m going to explore how the book works, and how it hides its mechanics. It is a wonderful book. You’ve got twenty-four hours to read it, or not.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Trust me. It's a very fast read. The movie... I can't recommend.
If you'd prefer, I can post some aspects of the book to examine. Then, do my hard core dissection on Saturday. I can even make it a contest to see if you can identify the mechanics of the book before I name them on Saturday. Would that be more fun. I'd be looking for three or four winners -- with prizes to go out.
