To show my appreciation to Kerri for running Midwest Story Night
Since Kerri loves the novel Geek Love by Katherine Dunn, I’m sending her an advanced reader copy (ARC) of the “lost” Dunn. It launched last November. A publishing secret: ARCs are created for reviewers and bookstore buyers, to give them an early look. A hardcover book costs very little to print—once I’d heard a hardback cost twenty-five cents to print—but so few ARCs are printed that the cost breaks down to seven-to-ten dollars per ARC.
That cost, and their scarcity, makes the ARC worth keeping. An investment, as it were.
I still hope Kerri reads it. And Thank You.
Kerri deserves it! She worked her butt off for us Midwesterners! And we love her!
Chuck, it has been an absolute honor to host Midwest Story Night and bring together some fabulous people at various levels of writing. From my heart— I want all of them to know how much it meant to watch each one of them bare their souls on the stage. They pushed themselves to Mach 10, “doing and not thinking.”
Meeting readers/followers of your work changes the direction of my life. I now see that I can do even more despite the personally set limitations of my own body. I am more than my shell and will believe in myself more than I ever have. Thank you and all those that came to Midwest Story Night.
To be given a Katherine Dunn book by you as my reward is like finally graduating from college— and earning the diploma I never could in real life. I will cherish it with every word I read and continue my own writing without as many stops as there used to be. Thank you for the raise up. I am there for you for the next level of shenanigans. You can count on me, Sir.
Thank you everyone that participated in each of the 3 story night locations— those videos made me feel like I was right there rooting you all on!! You’re all different people now— keep going! Keep writing. Keep doing what you never thought you could do. I’m gonna be the first that says—- “I believe in you— here’s the pen and paper— do it.” Even take my own advice for a change.
Also— real quick— I’m sorry if I have ever been annoying to all of yah on Substack. This has just been a magnificent dream of mine and I’m so grateful for the support from everyone here. Thank you. Everyone of you. 😇
