This sounds incredible! I'll start crossing my fingers now.

Meanwhile, an anecdote I figured you and this crowd would enjoy: Last week I bought Geek Love at the Strand. This weekend, I was reading it and a ticket stub fell out -- from a showing of a movie called "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" at the Film Forum in 2011. Naturally, I had to know what kind of movie the person reading Geek Love would be going to see, so I rented it on Amazon. It's definitely among the weirdest movies I've ever seen. (I expected ghosts-and-forest-creatures weird. I did not expect erotic-scene-with-a-catfish weird.) But it's also atmospheric and beautiful and genuinely moving. And I'm positive I would have gone the rest of my life having never heard of it if it wasn't for a forgotten ticket stub in a book.

I love the ephemera people use as bookmarks and that may be the best... no offense to the host of this spot and photos of course. I am looking up the movie now... keep the folks at amazon wondering why all of a sudden is this movie getting hits... !

I've had this idea for a serial killer who believes he's a monster hunter, but he’s confusing people with classic monsters whom he kills. He kills a goth chick who he thinks is a vampire.

I think I’ve said before, my “favorite”, isn’t technically categorized as a serial killer. But Ted Kazynky.

This sounds great, unfortunately for me, I’m between jobs. Can’t wait to see what you bring back from the workshop.

It’s pretty wild that I got the notification for this in the middle of a discussion with my husband about a story idea he has for a serial killer type character.

The odds!

How does anyone not have a favorite serial killer? I'm particularly fascinated with Aileen Wuornos.

Easy, because they kill people, most often women, and often women that society considers disposable, thus why some cases go on for so long, take so long for an arrest.

If you have access, watch the British series The Long Shadow. The same contempt and misogyny contributed to the far more contemporary case in the US, the beach murders, now only partially addressed with an arrest this year.

Besides, in Australia we don't do serial killers or mass murders, so it's not in our psychology. The few serial killers are too icky to adopt a favorite. We tend to go more for lost in the desert or lunatics in the outback.

Having said that, the zodiac killer. Probably because he was never caught. Probably because his trail of killings remains a map popular with some tourists.

In 1980, I was the girl at the Florida State orientation who raised her hand and asked, “Who is Ted Bundy?”

The Bristol Herald Courier hadn’t carried him on the front page. That was for local news only.

The workshop sounds great, but dealing with too many mental illnesses in loved ones right now.

Cathartic--what a word.

Enjoy the work everyone.

This sounds like fun. I wish I could be there for the first kill. Some of these lucky people may even get to pop their murder cherry. Make sure you savor every moment and learn some good techniques.
