Goddmmit could we not talk about the end? (Yes I'm aware of how naive I sound)

That author is me. You inspired me to make an event a true experience. Ever since I got my first confetti filled box in 2006 I’ve arrived to achieve your level someday of wonderful treats. They really do mean so much to us fans and readers. Thank you for the lesson in what’s possible.

You're my heavy hitter in PDX. People will love you.

Can I be one of your backups? This too has been a dream of mine since I was 16...

Since your stop in AZ was originally scheduled at a bookstore but got moved to a high school gymnasium, will it be one these kangaroo helper events?

Yes, but I've only got three or four costumes for Phoenix.

I’m just glad I’ll get to be at one. Btw, I’ve paid $50 or more to see Neil Gaiman and David Sedaris and they just read and signed, just sayin’.

In the future I'll read and sign in book stores, with a few prizes. That way the book will be the only expense.

Would the zoom conference calls ever be an option? Like what you did for 'Invention of Sound' during the dark covid times? Those were incredibly fun.

Christ I hated those. Zoom is of the devil. I'd rather go back to drinking sterno.

Chuck, I'm going to see you in Seattle at Third Place books but the event is listed as noon to 8pm with no additional information about what time the candy pelting and roo tossing commences? Bummer that it's coming to an end. Grateful that I'll be there to see it.

Bad news. That's just an all-day signing. I'll chat with you and all, but it's not a staged event. There are nine staged events and six all-day signings.

Well damn. Looking forward to it nonetheless.

I'm excited to be a kangaroo for Chuck. I look forward to a future where a group of writer's from this substack get big enough where they can charge rockstar prices for their book release events. Thanks for all the mentorship and instruction Chuck!

That would be a wonderful idea.

Can't wait to see you in Pittsburgh! Fingers crossed, we get to meet for that autograph on my arm!

Expand full comment

This will be my third time to one of your events/readings. The first one I snagged a signed hamburger and the second a signed severed arm. I have no idea what I paid for those tickets, but I know they were worth every penny. I'm sure this one will be the same. See you in Pittsburgh, and thanks for doing what you do.

The last Pittsburgh event, with the hundreds of glowing beach balls at the museum. That was glorious. This year will be much better.

Very disappointed that there's no Toronto stop on this tour...and now it seems like there never will be.

Hey, if I had a Canadian publisher...

Expand full comment

If you’re actually looking for a Canadian publisher I might be able to hook you up with one of the small-medium ones! I’m a bit in the industry and know some people! They might be a little too small-medium for you, though!

This year I don't even have a British publisher. These are hard times.

Expand full comment

YOU WHAT?!

Expand full comment
author

Seriously. No British publisher would touch this book. Simon & Schuster is having to ship books to the U.K..

Expand full comment

When a new book of yours comes out, I usually keep an eye out for signed copies that British bookstores like Blackwells and Waterstones usually have a limited stock of. I haven’t seen any (so far?), and this news is probably why.

Also, is it not kind of ironic that British publishers aren’t picking this book up given its setting?
