I got about halfway through before I realized he was leading us to one story, not the whole book. The first few are not very similar to that one. I liked it! I've read a lot more shocking stuff though.
Everyone's tastes are different. I didn't find it shocking at all. If Chuck's books are a 10, this is a .0001 I like it a lot better than the Nora one. You? It's straightforward, well written (but doesn't draw too much attention to itself) and has lots of human interest "drama" to it. I just ordered a copy, which I'll get in a couple of weeks. We'll see how the stories hit me then. I find it different to read online vs hard copy.
I like that analogy, but I find the structure was easier to follow than 20th century music. ;) Anyway, Philip Glass and Steve Reich are minimalists too, no? ;)
Good luck. Amazon Canada doesn't carry it (available only through a 3P seller in the UK). My city library has zero copies, and even the Toronto Library system has a total of one copy, held in the reference library, meaning I don't think it can be checked out. Seems to be a rare one.
I think it's free. I found Heartburn on there. I might have clicked on Link through Facebook, as I usually do. Seems like a legit site (plus the only one that has the book in the known universe). Good luck!
Thanks! I stumbled on that site during the last contest. It looks like only one reader at a time can take a crack at it (nonsensical as that is in the virtual era). I can't even get back on! haha If you want to take a stab at 1 hr loans, you have to remove yourself from the waitlist. I'm discovering all this as I go.
Hope your turn comes up soon.
I just checked amazon.ca again. Nothing before 3 weeks.
Archive.org. You have to set up a free account to login, and then you can borrow it for free for an hour. Takes about 10 minutes to read. Karen S gets the credit!
What do you mean takes about 10 minutes to read?!? :)
You're welcome! I've made it so I'll never even be able to access that site (because the book is being read by everyone else on here and it's one reader at a time) haha (but I'm the every dog/cat who had her day so who cares? haha)
Oh boy I feel bad now. I looked at the 45 minutes remaining and read it again haha. Honestly I was so stoked to find access so quickly I spread the word and now its booked solid. No good deed goes unpunished haha.
For some inexplicable reason my local libraries don't carry this one. I have almost recovered from the turtle killing line but still regret having to forcefeed myself Heartburn in one day.
As the saying goes, "Never Again" (not to mention the need to chime in at 4 am, basically eliminating all of North America).
Maybe you should have sent out this book with the prizes. Then I'd really be kicking myself for not accepting it.
I'll recede now.
Good luck everyone.
At least the snow squalls have ended (for the moment).
Oh, wait! Amazon.ca says Get it Tuesday, Mar 22 - Tuesday, Apr 12, and Indigo, renowned for hosting Chuck's readings twice, has an even sweeter offer... Free pickup at
Indigo Place Montréal Trust as early as March 16th, 2022.
So Canada is out too.
My ancestors and spirit guides really know how to pull strings to keep me out of harm's way.
I read online all day for work, so not going that route either. Glad to know I have a nice calm week ahead.
Ah, I got this book not too long ago so this lines up quite nicely. Are you going through all of the (fictional) books that you recommend in ‘Consider This’ on a weekly basis, Chuck? If so, I’m in.
Also, due to myself dancing around an answer on the last quiz, I should probably salvage something on the upcoming one.
Paperback won't do it. By the time it reaches me, WW3 would've already started. If anybody finds an ebook version that can be bought, please post it here.

My library does have that as an ebook. I just read the table of contents and it doesn't say Safety Net is in it...
Someone here posted the link on archive.org
Found the story there and read it.

There were copies on ThriftBooks.com earlier today; not sure if that ships to Canada
Good looking out but I don't think it'll arrive in time.

I think it's free. I found Heartburn on there. I might have clicked on Link through Facebook, as I usually do. Seems like a legit site (plus the only one that has the book in the known universe). Good luck!
Thanks, Karen S! Just read it for free on Archive.com. Appreciate the tip!
You just read the whole thing?!?! You deserve the prize! haha Good luck!

I can't find it anywhere that will ship in less than like 2 weeks, unfortunately. No place I could find has epub or pdf either.

Ditto. I thought surely it would be available digitally, but no such luck.

Score! Thank you. And thanks Karen S.

Hey it's every blogger for him or herself!! haha How did you read it in 10 minutes. I know there's such a thing as speed reading, but still!! :)
B-side Woody Allen stand-up? 😬
What a review!
Not a review. A warning. Brace yourself.
Haha!
"Review" then 😂
Maybe she secretly liked it after the read - the experience.
Who knows? Maybe it grew on her? And she didn't want to tell anyone. A new guilty pleasure.
When the author of Guts tells you it's a warning. It's a fucking Warning!

Maybe I’ll get the answers right this time.
To the library...
My library doesn't have this and neither does Amazon Canada. I'll need to get resourceful here...

I couldn't find it on Amazon dot ca. Link please?
Found it, nvm
Did you see what I saw? At least the Ephron one they had, unfortunately for me.
