It was black, but she was running with her feet floating off the ground. Her arms were outstretched, and three of us saw it. It remains the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen. She eventually disappeared in a weird flash of light. Before we saw her, I had this strong urge to look to my left. She was definitely running away from something, and she was most certainly 2D and floating.
My theory of what this might be depends on your perceptive of the lady. If she was against a flat surface, I theorize it may have been a film projection. If she wasn’t against a flat surface, I theorize she was either a bonafide witch or someone who’s inhaled a lot of helium.
Was it not like a week ago that you did a post about throwing a Halloween themed party in the castle you built? Time’s going to quick, man. Can someone stop the bastard, por favor?
Hi there! I’m travelling from Canada and am planning to attend this night. I have a 5 min spooky piece I’d really like to present. Is there a way to sign up or something?
I attended a study hall with Chuck last year in November and would love to give this a shot too!
I think there was a system glitch and an email went out yesterday about September 12th. What are the next scheduled dates? Thanks. Sorry, if I'm just confused.
Not this very next one. But I will push to host another story night on the 24th as well. Once I get a confirmation from the bar, I will let everyone know!
Yeah but I meant only by who has the scariest theme. And you could put that to a vote.........it doesn't have to be you that makes the decision, but the popular opinion..........
I wish I could be there. I have to confess, I haven’t been as active on here lately. But that’s not due to the content. Your posts continue to be amazing! Keep it up. I’m still working on my big story and had a huge breakthrough this week that finally fixes all the problems I couldn’t figure out. I was in the dumps for a while.
Chuck -- guess what? I got a question. A two parter if you care to oblige. I’ve read you say (please correct me if I butcher this somehow) that in the end you want to break the reader’s heart.
1. I love Fight Club. (duh!) What was the heartbreak in the end of that story? That Tyler isn’t real? That the narrator couldn’t have the sense of self-worth to be the person he wanted to be and so instead concocted an alter-ego?
2. I’m in a movie group called Incredibly Strange Films. People in there are very smart and are great at breaking down plots, explaining why something worked for them and why it didn’t. They seem to absolutely loathe M. Night Shyamalan due to his predictive ‘shock’ endings and also what many point out to be major plot holes. You follow rules/formulas very much just like it seems he does. What would you say is most important in following your rules/formula so as to keep each story fresh and unique?
You know it could be coincidence, but I just realized that Fight Club ends with a guy shooting himself in the mouth and Invisible Monsters starts with a girl shooting herself in the mouth. Could totally make an elaborate fan theory that The Narrator, Tyler, Shannon McFarland, and Brandy Alexander are the same person. Hell, maybe all the main characters in allot Chuck’s novels.
I hesitate to dictate the meaning for my stuff, but to me the heartbreak was the moment the narrator was revealed to be a fraud in the support groups. At that point (similar to the crisis near the end of 'Choke') the narrator stands to lose all of the love and nurturing he's gamed from the dying people. Then... all the dying people accept the narrator DESPITE his worst self. They rush to save him, despite the fact they themselves are dying.
That part's not in the film because, you know, time restrictions.
The thing that keeps archetypes like "the hero's journey" or whatever fresh, is the voice. Invent a distinctive voice and keep it consistent.
Thanks dude! Hope you’re having a great week. I can understand why you hesitate to call out your own interpretation of your work. I get that as artists we for sure want to leave interpretation open to the audience to take their own meaning. That’s for sure what makes art great! Voice. 10-4. Got it!
Several online publication websites had requests for scary stories. I submitted some ghost stories for publication. I wonder if they will be accepted. The story involved a true story about a tape recorder and a scary recording. Siblings can be so cruel to each other.
I saw a witch once.
And...?

Ha! It’s possible! 🤣

Well, we were outside on a hill! 🤣
Dark sorceress or human ballon it is, then.

You're telling me?
How fun! 🕸🎃

You're in. Give the secret Canadian handshake, and you'll go to the front of the line-up.
Happy to divulge a closely kept national secret in this context. Looking forward to it!
Oh fuck this is going to be great.
I really hope you're still going strong on your creepy brother/sister project. All the best.
Hey Chuck! Sure am. I vomited it out and now I’m sculpting it. :D Thanks for checking in.
Can you guys, like, put a pentagram down at the venue and invoke me? It’s cheaper than a plane ticket.
Sounds like fun. Put me on the sign-up list for garlic and holy water.

Hi Eric,
We didn't host a New York Story Night event yesterday, so you didn't miss out on anything!
I put a comment under the post you mentioned. The next Story Night New York event will be on Monday, Oct 10th. See you there!
Hi Randy. Thanks. See you then. Will that be Halloween themed? Eric
Not this very next one. But I will push to host another story night on the 24th as well. Once I get a confirmation from the bar, I will let everyone know!
Make it a contest?
While I like the idea, I don't want to subject writers to too much judgement. That comes too soon as it is.

Omfg......................what about the best costume/outfit?????
P.S. Interview with a Vampire is on tonight.....
Sounds awesome. Hope you guys have a great time 👻

Are you gonna turn off all the lights? It'd be really spoopy.
Playing with darkness ?
