Yeah, no, this isn’t about chocolate rabbits. It’s The Quiz.
It’s business as usual. The first person to answer each question correctly gets a box of prizes. Please, one prize pack per winner—so even if you give two correct answers, the second prize will bump to the next correct answerer. If I tap you as a winner, please send your snail-mail address to Dennis, here. For winners outside the United States, please include a phone number to help get things through your local Customs.
I’m looking for the answers I’m looking for, so no sass mouthing me. As warned, this Quiz will be on killing (or not killing) animals in fiction. Here goes:
1. Plot-wise, why does the cat have to die in Midnight Express?
2. What famous story always revolves around a dog in peril?1
3. Besides the film Alien, what other famous story ends in a chase after an orange cat?
4. Why does the cat always have to be orange?2
That’s it. Good Luck. I’m launching this at 3 AM, my time, tomorrow morning.
This one is so obvious you’ll kick yourself.
Ask yourself: Why does Eva Marie Saint wear an orange coat?
Okay. I should've checked earlier, but I wanted to give everyone time to chime in. Forgive me if I read the sequence of comments wrong, I wish they'd all have a specific time/date, but I've tried to date them according to their place in any thread.
The answers are: #1 as explained by Paul Esterhaz, see below. #2 The Wizard of Oz, so I think Rob Gilman submitted that first. #3 Is Breakfast at Tiffany's so I think Wusiwug got there first. #4 is about how easy it is to "track" orange against a dim background so that's either Josh or Katy. Josh, have you won before? Would you like to relinquish your prize to another?
Everyone! Please let me know if I misread the sequence of entries, here. Once this is settled, I'll ask the bonafide winners to submit their info to Dennis. Thanks, chuck
