It was a gamble. Commencement speeches often use "In closing" to signal their summation, but once you use it several times the audience realizes you're just buying time. It makes a nice transition because it's so bland, while still being organic to the speech form, like cheering on the mascot and school colors.
Spooky, but I've never used oratory gestures. Monday I found myself using them and realized I'd learned them by watching Matt Rindge. He presents work at Hindsight and workshop. We all pick up tricks from one another.
Separately, I'd like to pose a somewhat serious question about the writing process. I'm interested in the thoughts of everyone. I'm not sure if this is the place to do it.
My dad used to go to garage sales, and for whatever reason, some people would have their high school or college annuals for sales. He'd poke through and look for the signatures of the not-yet famous.
This is the same guy who, right after he sat next to you, you shouted, "It's too crowded here! If anyone has any available chairs, please share."

Sterno huh? Is that how you keep those creative fires burning?
Noll, who does sound at Midwest Story Night, has 3 nipples.
As does Marky Mark.
I liked how the phrase "In closing..." got you a few chuckles. I can't explain that. Great story. And also...GO WILDCATS!

I remember Matt Rindge! And how I'll never accept ANY cookies from him cause of that one story lol
Right?
The use of "in closing", in closing, was awesome.
I still have my Charlie's Angels cards.
And my Welcome Back Kotter cards.
