Missed opportunity to say it was a “blast” or would that just have been too obvious?
Chuck, have you seen the recent controversy around Roald Dahl books being rewritten Ministry of Truth style? If so, what are your thoughts about it? Would the topic be worth a post itself?
A more random question -- when you went about writing ‘Fight Club 2’ where there any comics or graphic novels that you read to get a feel for the medium and, if so, did any of them stick out to you in particular? For someone’s first foray into the comic medium, what you did with the opportunities available was one of the things that really stood out to me and which I enjoyed a lot when I read it for the first time.
Someone’s birthday is coming up soon and this person apparently don’t like receiving gifts, but, through a mesh of quantum physics and semantics, I think I’ve got a solution to the problem of gift giving. Say one buys THEMSELF a birthday cake and that this person then simply offers some of THEIR birthday cake to the person whose birthday it is -- would they accept? And if so, does that make the birthday cake that of the purchaser’s or that of the person whose birthday it actually is?
I hope paint ball in ball gowns happens that will be so fun. Also taxidermy would be super fun to help with so many situations where I write about anatomy, viscera and reanimating corpses.
I know they wouldn't let us into the morgue but how about a day at the abattoir? I got stuck in 4H as a kid and we had to take the cattle from field to table for a day. (We also got our hands into all the viscera in between.) The captive bolt pistol is brutal, (sometimes it doesn't work on the first try.) They spent most of the day teaching us about masking smells and how to remove blood and entrails from almost every type of surface and fabric. After the hands on anatomy lesson during the dissection of the animals we played hide and seek among the hanging corpses in the freezer (sort of like that scene with Gary Busey in Predator 2 but without the alien.) Turns out hanging the meat causes the enzymes to soften the fibres of the muscle, the meat tenderizes itself. Who knew?
I'm more curious about the dissection of human bodies (although I think the first time it would be hard to endure). And a human abattoir is not yet a thing (or is it?). Anyway, I'm considering going full vegan, but I guess I have to go through the vegetarian phase first (small steps, small steps). I also think of the "meatary"-industrial complex as complementary to the military-industrial one, of which I'm a passionate detractor. And I find no joy in hunting animals too. In conclusion: I like human anatomy, I like the study of the wondrous mechanisms and forms of the body, in particular when they are fresh, harmonious and smooth. I like beauty, and I love animals and nature in general. Namaste.
Thanks for putting this together, Chuck! When the fungi pandemic hits à la "The Last of US," my odds of surviving are at least 4.5% better now that I am a trained shooter with roughly two hours of experience under my belt.
It was a blast, thanks for organizing this.
Wonderful! Glad it went so well 😊
Also - kitty! 😻
Thank you for the bullets and the dinner Chuck! Now I can finally live up to my own cowboy name
I’m flying out for whatever’s next, damn it. Glad to hear it was a hit!

Here me out on this:

Call that shit Schrödinger’s birthday cake.
Thank you for the fun day, Chuck! Can't wait for the next ones! :)

Ooh I love the idea of taxidermy, that would be amazing. Paint ball in ball gowns has to happen!
What about jolly autopsy sessions at the local morgue? ☠️

So story night in Portland will be open for the next few weeks?
No. Once a month.
Thank you! I'm so fucking clueless.
Is it this first of every month? What's the date?

Thanks again, Chuck! It was epic.
So glad you all had a great time! Awesome experience.
Sorry to miss it tonight :(
Chuck, I want to hear more about the drinks and dinner part. What kind of food? Drinks? And don't forget to go on-the-body.
I'm so happy you guys had a great time. It sounds incredible.
There were eight readers last night and they were all really good! Thank You Chuck and Karyn for this very cool and unusual event.
