A word to the wise: inviting the British anywhere on November the 5th is not a good idea. Shit goes from disagreement on religious grounds to terrorist plot real fast.
Looking from outside, and I could be very wrong, it seems the British's new religion now are Football teams. You inherit the love of a club, can't switch, games on Sunday, loads of chanting and the occasional riot. Not that there's anything bad with that.
I’d say you’re pretty spot on with Football teams being a kind of new religion for some people; especially in cases with teams that have religious backgrounds such as the Celtics.
Side note: I’d imagine Football Jesus would actually serve some form of functionality if he was crucified to a goal post -- his limp body could possibly deflect incoming goals. Thus, football Jesus is better than old school Christian Jesus. Checkmate, Christians.
Can't share it on Facebook. My mom's heart will go on full stroke mode, if she finds out I'm a Poker player, instead of a respectful small-business owner. But, my other account comes to the rescue. Long live hindsight!
I follow them and their cart on IG already and keep telling everyone what a magic little spot it is. Karyn and Laurie are incredible - not just incredibly knowledgable in their craft and product-but incredibly kind, supportive and interested in what us storytellers do. They really care. I'll support them in any way I can!
P.S. And if you had like future dates I'd come read so I can book flight and hotel.
I'm kinda also trying to find something really cool to do for my 50th and Connecticut sucks for nightlife..............(elusive February Pisces here who has only had 2 parties in her life and only a few celebrations)
Random question for Chuck here. How do you know when a writer can be considered talented? What is your criteria? Is it a matter of producing good work, or is it about maintaining certain traits like persistence, determination, and commitment?
I 'm not sure I believe in writing talent. I've seen too many naturally gifted storytellers who give up. And I've seen too many horrible writers suddenly break out after years of dull writing. If there's a talent it might be in simply recognizing what stories/ideas excite people. So the "talent" might just be in paying attention.
How often do you want me to drive down to Portland this week? Thursday Workshop, Sat to support the festival, and Sunday to hang out with Monica. This seems like you are making the case for us creative Seattle people to move to Portland or something >.> I can't be PortlandSnowflake.... It doesn't roll off the tongue. Gah i'll think about it.
I really enjoy your sub stack and I love the stories of the fantastic people reading out their work. That being said, the video format is really nice, but having this as an audio-only form would greatly improve my experience of the material.
The Moth-style or even better a podcast including the read out stories would be soooooooo great.
Love hearing all the people's stories and keep on writing you lovely people. Greetings from Germany!
Can’t seem to find a handle for Hindsight Taproom on Twitter - anybody know if there’s a proper handle so I can tag them?
I'll get you this asap. Working on it. Thanks!
Alas, Karyn says she's got no handle for the tap room. Any ideas?
Karyn is like yours truly, a little slow on the social media front.
No prob, I'll just fire out the details to all of my follower.

First sentence also works if you remove “on November the 5th” from it, I guess.

Amen to that!

Time to go reread A Clean, Well-Lighted Place!
