Kerri Rickard is spearheading the Midwest story night. Nothing will make you a better writer faster than hearing how your work lands with a live audience.
God bless her, but Kerri wants to call it Chuck Palahniuk’s Story Night.
The first meet-up will be January 18th. Doors open at 6:30 PM, with the first reader at 7:00 and the cut-off is 10:00.
The location is Cedars West End. 706 Steel St., Youngstown, Ohio 44509.
I hesitate to give out Kerri’s phone or email. If you’ve got questions, please post them below in Comments, and perhaps Kerri can resolve them there.
In just the few months we’ve run the Hindsight Story Night in Portland, we’ve seen writers break out. Their flat prose and expository detail has evolved into intuitive storytelling that’s infinitely more entertaining. Some folks read work once or twice and vanished. It can be tough work. But those who come back continue to become better storytellers.
Above all, the key is to come back. Use the resource of a live audience. Sense the support to keep writing. Find out where the laughs in your story are, and the moans, and the tears.
My bad. I forgot to say "THANK YOU, KERRI!!!"
