I really enjoy the thread of continuity in your posts.

I love the idea of someone walking along and spotting this tiny lit village.

Right? The vacant lot sits below street level so anyone seeing it from the sidewalk will feel as if they're looking into a valley, at a village.

Damn I wish I could be there to participate in this.

People will post pics. As will I.

I'm on the other side of the country - does anyone live in CT?? We can coordinate and do a coast to coast Cacophony collab on Wednesday! (Check out that alliteration). Let me know! I have a few places in mind depending on where people are.

PS Those cookies brought absolute delight to my heart

Would be willing to do something in Pittsburgh/Ohio area. Would be kinda cool if it happened all over U.S. - same night.

I'm down with the sickness (covid). I can't set up the CT village tonight and I'm devastated. Hoping to see everyone else's photos!!

There are no goofball ideas, only goofball people, and a drug called goofballs. Its the shit that killed Jim Belushi.

Now Im feeling an overwhelming desire to cut down a massive Griswold Xmas tree, put it up, and decorate it, in some random public place overnight. The little village might be easier. Or hang ornaments in some evergreen tree in a public place. That would be cheaper and easier. Guerilla kindness.

Or go caroling and only sing very inappropriate Xmas songs such as Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis, or Fairytale of New York.

I see that Seans cookies were a big hit! There were a lot more of them.

I was lucky to get one.

Fairytale of New York is a Christmas classic.

To say I’d be delighted to come across something like this while out and about is a massive understatement. It’s what I live for.

I love it when people do guerilla kindnesses

More on this tomorrow. But this kind of stunt -- like The Sultan's Elephant, that stunned me in London -- is key to something called "Shock Induction."

Expand full comment

Pretty sure I have some level of addiction to this sort of thing and experiences that produce similar responses in general. I’m also a parasomnia-sleep hallucinator, so anything hypno shock is my jam. Lol Look forward to hearing more.

Btw--today is Santa-Con here in SF. Giving off some “Shock Induction” vibes seeing hundreds of Santas loitering in the streets and Union Square. Made my day.

Oh the memories. All of them "R" rated.

I've just posted the Shock Induction thing.

Pics please!!! Need to live vicariously for the moment. But - Oh, so there in spirit!

I love this! We really need some cacophony in our area!

Reminds me of the army of pink lawn flamingos in the small town I grew up in. It is rumored someone set them up all over a friends yard and it became a small town tradition to flamingo someone else's yard if the army of flamingos ended up in your lawn. It was fun to drive through town and discover where the flamingos landed that week as a teen.

The magic of "limnoid" events -- as per Victor Turner -- is that if they serve people, then the culture adopts them and perpetuates them as institutions. Everything is an experiment.

Love this idea, can’t wait to see photos!!

This sounds like alot of fun. I can't wait to see it and help put it up somewhere.

Are we doing this before, during, or after the xmas stories? I'll be there.

I want to move to Portland just so I can do all the stuff you talk about.

I'm trying to walk the talk, you know. It's one thing to lament the golden age of Cacophony, but it's better to risk the massive cringe of making the magic happen.

Jason! I'll arrive early to bring the houses & trees. If you've room to stash a couple storage bins, I'll bring them by on Tuesday. The weather is supposed to be dry. The batteries and all are in my office, so you've got to provide nothing.

Absolutely!

I LOVE this so much! I don't know that I'm familiar with the cacophony collective per se but it def reminds me of my early days in Portland. Nascent days of Santa-con. Bar-fly bus. 50 clowns randomly rolling up to a North Portland bar on tall bikes.... ❤️
