I'm told that people eventually told ghost stories around the bonfire. By then I was crashed and snoring. Very glad the nearest neighbors are 1.5 miles away.
Wow. This looks like a blast. Hope to see more photos! I have a circa 1992 ‘Scary Halloween Sounds’ tape playing on my porch right now and ever since I started it families have started skipping my house. More candy for me I guess!
In the 70s there was a record album called 'Chilling Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House.' Pity my parents. We played the 'various screams' track endlessly.
Such a strange old man project. Near the end of his life Carl Jung set out to build two stone towers near his home. Both my father and grandfather took on stone projects late in life. Within a few miles of my house the woods are dotted with the stone ruins of large houses, all overgrown and unexplained. In the Pac Northwest, where things rot so quickly, stone seems like the only legacy.
You do have started to think of yourself as an older man... You used to say "You have to give your *youth* to something", then started speaking about mourning your unborn children, and now... you speak about "not living forever" and sacrificing your life, not just youth, to something... as a done deal...
