Well in this day and age most of us including myself are more likely to find ourselves sharing a tent underneath the freeway. I think it's more colorful actually. Literally.
You know I still haven't seen the movie or even read the book. I did see one clip about some kid trying to be peaceful and civil and uniting of the tribes and some kid on a cliff drops a huge rock on him.
IDK why we love killing people like that. Peace and unity? Nah, fuck that.
Yes! Also, my job is a good inspiration for that type of setting. People have swung at each other during shifts. 6/10 people get fired for workplace violence. There's a lot of hostility there.
I think that's why stories about space and space exploration are also terrifying. Astronaut's have talked about sharing close spaces with their peers for long periods of time. When they come back to Earth they clearly stated that they were extremely glad there was nothing like a gun on board because it would have been used it. Terrifying.
What an interesting observation... I like it! You mentioned tiny houses... I think that could make for something quite fascinating. Like, someone selling the same tiny house to multiple people and they all arrive to see the others arriving... and try to make it work. But it doesn't work. Because why would it? 🤔
The housing meme is being used in the book Fourteen Days. Lockdown in New York during COVID Residents of an apartment building meet on the roof and tell stories to pass the time during the lockdown. The book is a collaboration of multiple authors. It's very good, five stars in my opinion
Oof. That brings back memories. I did the "six-feet-apart roof drinks" thing with a couple of my neighbors during that time. That's a really clever premise to tie together a story collection. I'm going to have to check that out. Thanks for the recommendation!
As cheap and crass said I think I homeless encampment may be more accurate for the times. I’ve never lived in one but my brother has. I feel like it’s more his story toy tell.
Writing a story about visiting your brother in his plastic and torn house and being forced to share that space with him among the devastation could be a powerful metaphor for those family members who have to simply sit and watch the devastation of a loved one go through addiction and trauma. There's only so much a family member can do.
I had to renew my subscription for this. Happy Birthday to you! I adore you and everything you've shared with me. If I ever achieve anything great with writing, now or in the future, you're the reason. Hope you had the best day ever. You deserve it. And much more. And I'm not talking about David Foster Wallace either haha
But imagine if we all lived in a boarding house? Oh gosh, we'd start killing each other. Or humping each other. Or both, I even don't know!
Thank you for the inspiration! I read this at 1:00am because I’m not sleeping and the idea opened a well of creativity that has been shut in with grief. I wrote for 3 hours. Fun and yet disturbing prose. I’m rocket launched by this idea. Bless you!
What’s the one where the main character lives in an apartment building full of colorful people, but they never actually interact because they’re all in their virtual reality bubbles?

Get Mr Palahniuk? I said "more colorful" like as in tent colors. That reminds me of Everest's Rainbow Valley. https://www.marveladventure.com/blog/rainbow-valley-everest#:~:text=Rainbow%20Valley%20is%20an%20area,the%20stretch%20of%20Rainbow%20Valley.
How come Mr Palahniuk never says "Hi!" to us any more? lol We lost our charm.
Maybe he doesn't like us anymore.
I don't blame him. :P lol I wouldn't want to talk to me either. lol
You weren't supposed to like that comment Joe G! lol
LOL I can't help it, I see a Cheap comment, I like it!
I know! Chuck used to be a prolific responder. Is he mad with us?
He's very busy and handsome right now. It's like Lord of the Flies in here now. lolol Which is pretty cool.

This is true.
I like stories where characters are trapped in a small, hot room.
You mean like "Saw" and "Cube." Lots of horror stories are in small hot rooms.
Yes! Also, my job is a good inspiration for that type of setting. People have swung at each other during shifts. 6/10 people get fired for workplace violence. There's a lot of hostility there.
whats your job!? If you dont mind me asking?? WTF! Thats crazy!
It's a warehouse job. I wrote a short story working there.
Chuck used the term "sonder stories" but you just described a new kind called "Sauna Stories" lol
I like that lol I've worked a lot of jobs that were hot and miserable. At my job, the heat sticks to you like globs of napalm.
Where do you work, Logan? The 8th Circle of Hell? Sounds like it haha
It feels like it😂
Mostly because I work in a small, hot space all throughout work🙁
I work with a bunch of dudes all day. Total sausage fest so I can kinda relate.
It's not female-friendly either
Yeah. My coworkers have always been surprisingly accepting of me but I always miss the one girl that always ends up leaving after a while. Sad face.
Happy birthday, my sweet friend. ♥️
I left him a birthday message too. Hopefully he doesn't see it and swiftly ban me for a month lol
Sometimes the job provides common housing!
Sometimes the job does not provide but assumes common housing! (all those unpaid congressional staffers have to sleep somewhere).
This would work great to use a bunch of story “false starts”. Put everyone in the same building and let it happen! Thanks, Chuck!
It worked out well in "Haunted."

That's crazy. Can you imagine Buzz Aldrin poppin' a cap in someone's ass? Actually I think he has.
Oh I can lol

I appreciate the food for thought!

i just bought it. i’m glad you give it a good recommendation.

Yeah. I've visited a few friends in tent homes before and when I was an addict I was dangerously close to being in one. Like one step away.
Yeah. I’ve only witnessed so I feel like it’s more someone else’s story to tell.

Definitely Both
And harvesting eachother’s body parts.
HAUNTED 2?

Bit late here, but happy birthday Mr P.
