Okay, Christmas Ships are a Thing
Back when I lived in the 300-sq-ft shack where I wrote Fight Club — 13558 NW Riverview Drive in Portland — the brightly lit holiday ships would parade by once each December. They always arrived on a Sunday night, cruising along the boggy, foggy, dark Multnomah Channel, glowing with color and blasting Christmas music.
Thirty years later, it seems that every community has such an event.
Consider the legend of the Flying Dutchman. The ship is supposed to sail forever, giving off a strange light, hoping to signal to people who see it. Dead sailer ghosts + Christmas yachts = This Story Writes Itself. How would you combine a classic myth with a new trend? How would you spin this?
