Blame your results on Carl Jung
To recap, this past week I asked you four questions. These were part of a graduate-level college course in psychology. Each question is based on a Jungian archetype, and the three adjectives you gave describe how you feel about these archetypes.
In the spirit of full disclosure my own four answers in 1983 were:
Green: natural, peaceful, cool
A rabbit: beautiful, soft, gentle
The St. Lawrence Seaway: busy, fast, crowded
The all-white room: noisy, cold, scary
Now the archetypes as per Herr Jung
The color represents you, or how you see yourself. Thus the three adjectives are how you’d best describe yourself.
The animal is how you see all other people.
The watercourse or body of water is your sex life. Just sit with that one.
The all-white room is death, and your three words are how you feel about death.
An interesting game, no?
If anything hits home, consider that that’s how it feels long after you’ve published a book — when you suddenly realize what you were actually writing about. Horrors! You can’t get that degree of honesty if you know from the get-go what you’re exploring. A good story, in a good voice, is something you have to trick yourself into writing. It has to be a game until it isn’t.
Tomorrow, something nicer. Tomorrow we’ll launch the Valentine’s Day Contest.
Now, don’t go deleting your posts.
You bastard.
I chose “terminal” for the white room. I suddenly feel the need to see a doctor.
