Watching The Sentinel with this contest in mind hyper focussed my eyes to search for everything going on in the scenes. It deepened the viewing experience.
It was nice how the subtle cages boosted the upfront Bird and Cat metaphor too.
Congrats, Josh! Not a participant here, cause I wasn't confident of my choice. Thanks to everyone really, all answers helped me make better sense of not only this technique, but movies/fiction in general.
Maybe just another contest I didn't win ( Record holder still) but, probably the one I needed most.
Man if I had neighbors like that...Who needs coffee in the morning when you have a neighbor like Sandra! Who needs three cups of morning coffee and now "I'm strangely turned on, Sandra...Thanks." As soon as I saw her face I was thinking " Oh my god, shit's about to get real!"...and it always did. She is a fabulous psycho.
...while it's not in the movie. The drug addicts are going too. Anyone who bucks back at the system. I believe you spoke about growing up and being hyper-aware of your being so you don't offend. That tidbit hit me hard. I get so angsty and upset!
I was watching "Hail Satan?" The other day. The best quote ever...A Satanist asks "Is this how everyone who's different is treated!?"...we all know the answer to that question.
A few questions for anybody. How did the cufflinks, the birthday cakes, the crucifix, the ring, the magic tricks, etc. change if you know? I think the movie like all movies are riddled with continuity errors and I don't think they were trying hard given the nature of the movie.
And Tony and I spent a lot of time on the cats. Pictures and everything. I think the evil cat who eats the canary was a stunt cat - note the white arch over the back.
Whaaat! Thank you so much, Chuck!!! And thanks for the congrats from everyone else.
Really love these assignments. Sincerely.
Btw has anyone else mentioned the number of name actors in strange roles in this film?
Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, Beverly D’Angelo... I don’t think I’ll be able to look at Mrs. Griswold the same way after seeing her in this flick.
Rereading the sentence post just gave me a moment of realization. Ive been writing crappy, short poems as soon as I wake up for years with no intention for them. Then I made friends with a published poet and started workshopping with her every week. She has mentioned using them in fiction many times.
Ive noticed that I dont write many lines that I love in my stories, but there are many in the poems that I adore. Going to compile my favorites and connect the dots into a story.
Oh, I loved this movie. It's become one of my favorite movies of this year so far. Some of the lines were so devastating. And I think Charlie is a good example of a lovable character.
Time for me to get caught back up in the stack and watch the movie this weekend! Just got done moving and working on continuous home repairs. Once you fix one, a few more pop up. The exhaustion is real! Hopefully my last move for a really long time!
hi chuck, how are you doing? i'd like to ask if you have any plans of posting the story night videos on YouTube or having them available in a podcast feed. i really enjoy them and i wish i could listen to them more conveniently in other platforms outside of substack
🥸reminds of family heirlooms and or an Amy Tan novel- then I think about Jamie Lee Curtis and Michelle Yeoh .., Every thing All At Once .... one wiggle 👁️
Congratulations, Josh! Damn, I thought I had it with that frigging handkerchief.
Congrats to Josh! Enjoy your Easter swag!
Sorry, you were a beat late.
No worries. It was fun homework. I've never paid such close attention to a movie in my life.
Nice one Josh!

Back to the One Sentence post I go!
No one wants to talk about Sandra with me? *Sad face*
Beverly's first big break.

What's important is that you realize who goes to Hell:
Women who get old
Deformed men
Same-sex-attracted people
A blueprint for life. Read it. Learn it. Live it.
Yes Sir.

I concur about the sentence post.

As far as the cufflinks, the only change I can remember is towards the end Allison picks them up if the carpet and they're now covered in blood.
Was there a change to the crucifix or ring. I looked closely at those.
But you do see them in his cuffs when Michael phones to get his dirty deed done.
Good on Josh for getting this. I actually enjoyed the movie despite my mind being so focused on making notes about every little detail lol
I'm pretty sure I wrote something about birds or cages. My issue was explaining the symbolism.
Did you find a prize for the last contest? The Monkees alternatives?
Working on it. I'll resolve the contest next week.
*thumbs up*

Eli Wallach's necktie was a room-size carpet.

Hey Chuck, have you seen the movie The Whale with Brendan Fraser? I really want you to see it.
Not yet. Soon.
I didn’t take “The Whale” well. That one hurt. Good stage blocking though. 🤷♀️
I loved it.
YES! I would LOVE to hear what you think and if it uses your minimalist concepts.
What did you think of it?
Oh, I loved this movie. It's become one of my favorite movies of this year so far. Some of the lines were so devastating. And I think Charlie is a good example of a lovable character.
I liked how familiar the setting was. I feel like that house is my house. They didn't prettify it or anything. It was so damp and believable.
Do you remember saying Aronofsky was too intense to adapt one of your books?
