Truth is I'm never scared of the book's topic while I write because I'm so focused on the execution and the million choices around voice, etc.. That attention to craft keeps the plot at arm's length. My fear coalesces around how I can risk presenting something very risky to an audience. There's my ego to get past. And there's that long moment when the audience hangs between being offended versus being amused. That's what I fear.
