Haha. What an awesome photo. It’s really cool that you do this.
Chuck, I’d like to give you a present (sort of). I’m in a group on Facebook that ‘unearths’ crusty obscure images from early social media. You wouldn’t believe some of the things people find and bring to the group. But, you should do the following:
1. Type “Chuck Palahniuk” into the FB search bar.
2. Select the “Photos” results category.
3. At the top right of the search bar there will be a settings symbol that looks like lines and circles — select that.
4. Next, select Date Posted and pick a year (I suggest starting at 2008) and select Show Results.
5. Viola! All photos related to Chuck Palahniuk from 2008. Many of them are fan photos from your author events.
The best part about finding these old images isn’t just the image itself. Often there are entire stories attached in the caption. You can hear about the amazing time people had at your readings. There are some good ones. (By the way — these instructions are for phone, so it may be a bit different on a computer.)
PS — This can also be used to search for any term you want. “Brad pissed his pants again” or “Katie is wasted” or “quit my job” or any celebrity, topic, etc. I’ve actually used this to find random ideas for my writing if I’m in an inspirational Dead Zone.
Huh? The first Cacophony event was in the Haight-Ashbury library, where Santas tries to nail me with a pie -- and the media bodyguard David Golia punched a Santa in the face. The Cody event I remember, but these photos don't look like the old Cody's on Telegraph Avenue. They look much too pretty.
I really wish I could have participated in Cacophony. I taught ESL in Korea for a year and we had a Santa Rampage we did with hundreds of other English teachers, only ours was called Santarchy. People were of course respectful, but partied very hard. Koreans didn’t know what it was, but I think they found it funny. The bars in Korea never close and it’s cheaper to stay up until the sun rises because that’s when the subway opens again to get home. Hearing you years later tell the origins of what I had participated in was really, really cool.
At the risk of repeating myself, I took my car to the dealership recently and a technician stepped up to say hello. Instead of mentioning 'Fight Club' or any of my books, he said, "I wish I could've been part of the Cacophony Society." I promise a full essay about Cacophony in the future, but it was a definitive group experience. For the time being, here's the basics:
Thank you for the massive bookmark and thoughtful wrapping! The elaborate bow from the top of the gift box now hangs next to my desk (and jingles a bit whenever my upstairs neighbors stomp around a little too much).
Much later in 'Greener Pastures' I wrote the line, "Every day felt like one of those days when you're glad you didn't kill yourself the day before." And when I read it aloud in workshop my fellow writers gave such a gasp of recognition that I knew it hit a nerve. If you can be honest you can express the thing everyone feels on occasion.
Awesome. I hope those who've received them will share photos of them somehow :)

Oh dear. Those little phone buttons drive me nuts, but I'll give it a shot.
If anyone has Pixie Package photos, please do post them here.
I haven’t figured out Substack photo posting yet. Can we do that?
This one for instance is an album of a signing you did at Cody books in 2002. The SF Cacophony Society showed up… with dinner rolls.

Oooo, I'm excited. Like someone said below, will post a pick if I can figure out how. Also, off to investigate Matt Perky's comment. :)
Same here. Not sure how to post the pictures!
You might send a picture to Dennis at The Cult. He's been terrific at forwarding things via email, and I can post a gallery here. Okay?
I couldn't find his email, so I just messaged the contact us part. So I shall wait on the response! Thanks.

Whenever you hear that bell ring a dog or cat has been adopted.
(shoot me for writing that, but i had to)
Great work ❤️
Thank you!

My Pixie Package landed today in the Northeast US. I love the bookmark and now know glitter balls are an actual thing. Thank you so much!
