'' Other than that I'm trying to let my recovery be the dominating theme. When I obsess about writing it kind of makes me crazy and in order to get the best out of my recovery, I have to embrace maybe my inability to produce anything else. ''
That might not seem like a real problem for some people but, I feel you. We're battling similar demons. I'm saying it reluctantly though, cause the last time I opened up to people about my condition, they've used it against me in horrible ways.
My patched up current solution might offer help, or atleast, hopefully make you feel you're not alone in this. I've noticed a pattern that I write mostly during Winters and early Springs. So, I'll chip in during that period as much as I can. A short burst of energy, trying to finish the thing as lightning-quick as possible. Along with injecting my brain with logic statements all the time. Currently settling for short stories only, and not going past two rewrites at best. This way, the fiction doesn't suck my reality in completely.
God you are the worst. When do you fly out? That way I can make sure to drive by the airport on the way to workshop to smack you in the head. I mean show how much I appreciate having a better opportunity to read my story in workshop.
That's still a tough call. I don't want to up-charge people, and I also want to maintain a safe place for writers to present unfinished work. By casting a wider net I worry that people won't have the privacy and face-to-face-ness they need to present raw work. You know?
Being far away in Ontario, if you ever decide to do a zoom workshop, i would definitely be interested. I’m sure some of the other people who live far from Portland would as well.
Hugo House in Seattle does a zoom workshop. Their next one is on OCT 30th.
In workshop all we do is trade serial killer stories and drink cream soda. It's like The Breakfast Club meets Rosemary's Baby. Totally worth the visit if your are in Portland. Chuck gives every first time visitor a special decoder ring so you can find the hidden subtext in all his stories. It doesn't really work well over zoom.
Oh just go to Monica Drake's substack. She has the details on the most recent post. I don't want to post the link on here since this is Chuck's substack.
Whatever man! Enjoy your special time with your wife. We will see you when she lets you out on parole. Just be sure to bring us more of that sweet sweet Verritas.
I can't wait. I'll be practice reading my story tonight in preparation for the workshop tomorrow. It will be fun seeing our disfunctional shared trauma group together again, err I mean writing group. I'll be sure to show everyone my new emotional scars.
I just would like a mailing address to send a donation for the workshop. Also Maggie has a present for Egg. It's nothing much but the bitch is driving me nuts cuz she thinks he sexy......
Ah man, I'm jealous I can't make to any workshops this go around. Every once in awhile I hear murmurings of a Discord group... Is there any truth in that?
For information about the Discord group, I usually tell people to meet me behind a specific parking lot at midnight. But anyhow, here’s the link: https://discord.gg/HDEAXXFp

Damn I’ll be in Portland from Mon till Thursday afternoon in the next few weeks so I’ll just miss it!
Have a good time everyone!
Matt, you're killing me. You can't stay 1 day longer to present one of your stories to the workshop?
I know! Even worse I come in Monday night so I won’t be able to make Hindsight either.

You’re sitting on a gold mine if you did a Zoom workshop thing. A raft of bucks. A cornucopia of cash.

Fair points, boss - I’m just lashing out from all consuming jealously.

If you do try something out in the future which involves zoom or whatever, I humbly volunteer as a Guinea pig.
I was a pro wrestler for 13 years.
Learned more from a kind, constructive new friend over and over. Sure, maybe they're not a destined besty but if they cared, I did something right.
Paid out the nose for no-help nothing "education" also, and it rarely tasted good. Something real, personal, I'd guess is way better.
Though money is nice and all.

Monica Drake just opened up a zoom class. Chuck Palahniuk are her were both in Tom Spanbauer's Dangerous Writing Workshop together.
Hi there.

Pleasure 🤝
You happen to have those details? Sounds interesting. No worries either way. Later 🤙🏼

*touches nose
Much obliged
Looking forward to it! I’ll miss this first one but will be there for all the rest!

Happy wedding. Did that happen this week?
Thank you! We got hitched on Saturday in Joshua Tree. Enjoying a mini honeymoon until Friday!

Howdy Professor P!
Are there plans for more workshops in the future?
I do understand that you probably can’t tell the future, but I’m open for educated guesses and speculation, as well.
I have some prior engagements for the next few months, after that…
Game time. Anyhoo. Chuck, you’re the man. Hello everyone! Thanks I’m advance.
Later, boners🤙🏼
Stop making me want to move to Portland.

What time tonight? Is this a residence or business? (Apologies, I'm new here)
Starts at 6:30. This is an office space in a strip mall of offices. Directly south across the street from a Wells Fargo.
I realized the time wasn’t included. I’m both interested and terrified. As it should be.
6:30 again tonight?
See y'all later!
