It's fascinating how Fight Club is universally utilized and quoted by both left and right and Fight Club just keeps on trucking. The Satanic Temple has abortion clinics in Texas allowing abortions as a right to practice our religion. A judge said that in order for us to overturn the abortion ban we needed to site a list of women who were planning on getting pregnant and then having an abortion. Ridiculous! After that, all the satanists were quoting Marla's infamous: "I want to have your abortion." LOL

Kinda fitting — if not ironic — that both the left and right project their own narratives onto a story centered around a character whose repressed thoughts and desires manifest into a radical split personality.

Fools all of them. “Fight club” is clearly a narrative about wanting to strip naked and jump out of pile of money. I mean, could this not be more obvious?

In that case it’s a gamble on how fresh off the press the paper money is. Could be brand new, could have been exchanged through many hands and now be laced with fentanyl. Roll dice.

I was just talking with my husband about how much you’ve influenced culture and how #projectmeyhem2025 is trending and of course “his name is Robert Paulson.” Left or right, you’ve always struck a cord.

It’s a fascinating study on how a story is just a mirror into the self, no one interpretation

Also a group of Satanists who don't like me at all had a "Fight Club" movie watch party and didn't invite little Cheapy out of spite.

Unfortunately over 50% of the adult population in the US is only able to read at 6th grade level, and it really shows when it comes to works like Fight Club. A lot of people are just reacting to how their political opposition interprets it, and they don't think deeply about it at all. Insecure men misunderstanding the Fincher film entirely and basing their personality around it? Must be because the source material is conservative. Robert Paulson jokes making the rounds on social media? That's because the book is a leftist manifesto.

Also the Laveyan "Satanplain" podcast recently put in their description: "As a reminder, the hip 2016 slang term "snowflake" means not merely anybody who reacts with fragile outrage, but particularly thinks being different entitles them to special treatment." 2016?!

The cultural landscape seems to be shifting rather dramatically after this last election. I don't think the election was a direct cause of this shift. I think people being told what to think by people in media has lost its effect. The decentralized of media onto various online platforms makes people want to get messages they feel are more authentic. I think works of fiction like Fight Club will continue to resonate with the public when something imaginary like that book feels more authentic of an experience then compared to most media.

TLDR: Fight Club is dirty and quotable. People want to feel something. They don't want to be told what to feel.

Maybe another example of how "emotional/heart authority" is replacing "intellectual/head authority." It's easy to dismiss a fact (what's your source?) but it's tough to dismiss how something makes you feel.

I think emotion is a good thing to lean into since the machines will take a while to chatGPT that heart authority. Hook the audience with the tricks and then make them feel it.

I think it's proof of Machiavelli. And proof that there is actually something real and universal beneath politics, the energy of which is manipulated toward whatever convenient purpose people can be used by. Fight club is so deeply resonant with so much of how people feel, in ways that are still decades later revealing themselves, but I've never viewed it's messaging as "politics". Think of how, in "Shock Induction", people with great potential are sort of bought and shelved so that the oligarchy can remain unchallenged. To me, turning Fight Club into something "right" or "left" is like....turning Samantha into the new queen of England. The anger and frustration is boxed up and made into something symbolic rather than actual.

They're both right. Fight Club, like everything else, is a Rorschach test. What you see in it tells us about you. Both sides see their greatest bogeyman in it: their opposition. None of them see the rest of us, the actual disaffected.

People cherry pick what they want out of whatever they’re consuming. I’ve always thought of Fight Club as anarchic, but that’s because I’m a punk rock mutt who read too many books that said my textbooks were full of lies. Snowflake can mean brittle and delicate, or singularly unique. I choose the latter, and proudly so. Snowflake is no insult to me. Before the internet, our consensus reality could be rather isolated, but now that we all have to live with each other’s opinions, we’ve realized we have some serious differences. Though, truthfully, these differences have no bearing on how we treat one another. It’s the inability to debate rationally that is creating this discord, and until we can approach our disagreements with empathy and respect, this spiral will continue. So, as always, I’ll create for my own pleasure and health, and let the world see what it chooses.
