So glad Betty the Kraken got a shout-out. Brimming with pride to see my brain child in the paper. She deserves it. SHE'S A STAR. On her way to greatness, even if she is a bit hack.
I can see the name Chuck Palahniuk getting some kind of world record for most book dedications one day. Seriously, the things you do for writers -- and just people in general -- is beyond generous.
This introduces a point of order. My only reservation about broadcasting the events -- Story Night and the upcoming workshop on Thursdays -- is that those events might be recorded. In both cases, writers are presenting work they might feel is unfinished, and those early "drafts" should maybe not be preserved. I squirm with glee as I burn my early drafts, and I can understand people not wanting theirs posted for posterity.
Does this deserve a thread of its own? I'll try to bring up the subject on Monday. Please give it some thought.
I think this would be a good post -- “Burn after redrafting”. Having a discussion about the whole topic of recording people while they deliver work is definitely something that be would pragmatic to talk about. For instance, as much as I’d like to see and be part of the events in some way, it’s not worth doing so at the expense of people not wanting to be recorded/have earlier versions of their work documented
That's a valid point. Recording an event like this, makes those drafts kinda permanent, and they shouldn't be. Maybe you get to decide Chuck, you're the most experienced writer here.
Getting tingles from this side of the pond.
So exciting! Thank you for setting this up Chuck. I hope the open mic performers get the exposure they deserve!!
Ah, amazing to read! Congratulations from this patch of the UK.

Gotta love a name like Samantha Swindler.

Every time you mention this, I can’t help but thing of Valarie Solanas and her S.C.U.M Manifesto. Poor Andy.
When they find the bodies buried under my house.
I knew those skulls in the castle were real.
I second this. ♥️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼♥️
Agreed!
That's really cool
Nice to see Hindsight doing well. It goes to prove that in-Person gatherings always triumphs the virtual.

Sounds fun! Wish I could be there!
I wonder if we can convince establishments in our areas across the country to have similar events.
Update: PM'd our local book tavern. Maybe we can get something going.
Any patrons of the Afterword Tavern here?
DO IT!
Excellent idea.
