Got time for coffee? (Also I reached out to Dennis for info on how/where I can send a formal thank you for the package. Incredibly kind. And the book... pretty awesome so far)
Front row seat booked for the NH show and book ordered for the Boston signing! Would it be possible to bring a few other books to have signed? Thank you!
What should we expect in Seattle? Find a sitter and come toward the end of the evening for the abbreviated smaller version, or the pilgrimage to Portland a few days before for the wild time? (Or is Seattle strictly a signing and see ya later? Don't want to miss out on severed limbs and kangaroos ❤️ That doesn't happen every decade and I never had the pleasure of funds before to attend.) Either way, see you in Seattle until I know if I'm buying tickets to both.
Also, thank you for doing all of this, it's always an amazing time even when it's just me being awkward while you so eloquently speak and sign my new book while I have my panic attack.
The event in Camas WA was a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you for that day, it still feels surreal to have been surrounded by so many great minds and hear everyone's stories throughout the day and evening. (I fought my car crash PTSD that day to manage the 7+ hour car ride to get there and back. Never thought I would pull the trigger once I got there. I owe you for ammo and long islands.) That field trip you dreamt up was the only thing that could have motivated me to do either of those things. Thank you for pushing me out of my comfort zone just by being you.
That trip revived my desire to write and be among those who create. Once you get finished with this and begin Gloves Off again I'll finally hit submit. Time to do the damn thing.
I wish I could bring myself to take the train or bus. PTSD is no joke. I never took it seriously until it happened to me. I lose my best friend on Monday (and it should have been me but my super strict grandma let me skip school) and on Friday I crashed on a patch of ice on the way to her funeral that Valentine's Day. Fucked me up pretty good. I hate any type of transportation most of all those I'm not in charge of.
Dana. I get you completely. I had three near-fatal car accidents in three years -- one while on book tour. That's hard to adjust to. Do what you need to do, but don't let it limit your life.
The lovely irony is that my book tour recovery cost me $14,000 in rehab and the IRS said it wasn't work related so couldn't deduct the expense. So, how are book tours not work related for an author?
We need an inside person at the IRS because clearly the current management is smoking dope. I'm so sorry that happened to you. For me the panic attacks didn't start until 3 years later so idk what happened but suddenly the highway was the enemy and getting me into a car was like trying to baptize a cat. I've never taken a bus or train because of it. I'm sure given enough time to travel you can find back roads to almost anywhere though... Good to know for an apocalyptic scenario too.
I share your care crash PTSD. Need to take a benzo for any freeway driving. Seattle will be a relaxed all-day event. Around 7:00 I'll read and answer some questions, then go back to meeting folks.
As for more 'field trips' we're looking at those parachuting places where you float on air, and fire walking... and renting a costume warehouse. Will keep you posted.
I saw an indoor skydiving place off the highway in Tukwila right around the time mine kicked in on the way to my last doctor's appointment. They seem legit.
Although fire walking and renting a costume warehouse would be my #1 & #2 choice if I were ever allowed to go on another field trip. Because with only one person in the flight tube at a time... so many eyes on you. Might need two benzos for that. Fire walking actually sounds thrilling.
Seattle is just meet/signing/small event. Portland is just big event w signed books.
Like you I have huge car crash PTSD and take a benzo before freeway trips. If you come to Seattle, come on your own schedule. Often the mid-day hours are relaxed and give us more time to blab.
I decided to go to attend both (I hope that's okay) since I've always wanted to explore Portland and my other half can't pass up an excuse to go to Kells. I have plenty of benzos stockpiled in the medicine cabinet so it will be worth dipping into them to make the trip. I've only heard tales of the big events and don't want to miss out on the only opportunity I might have to attend one. I look forward to the chaos and kangaroos. It's been a rough month so I decided to treat myself (and I can get my extra book signed for my good friend in Ohio that doesn't get the chance to see you.) In Seattle I'll have my partner there with me. (I'll tell Mike to fight you this time instead of getting choked so you don't have to find a stool to reach his throat!)
The Seattle date is at a book store I've not been to yet and I love discovering new places to buy books that aren't big chain stores. The bonus is, that trip only requires half a benzo since I'm just down in the Federal Way/Tacoma area. I'll have my nose stuck in a new book the entire ride home since I don't have to do the driving. I'll try being a highway passenger cold turkey on the way home just to see if I can do it. Baby steps. Is it okay to bring a small gift to the Seattle Event?
Cheesy smile here....
P.S I will behave........ yeah right
Are you a roo in Pittsburgh?
Wasn't planning on it unless he needs one....
Oxford is the closest to Nashville. May have to catch you on your last stop!
Im considering it as well.
A room costs a fortune because Ole Miss plays the next day. Have to stay 30 minutes outside of town.
I keep all my camping supplies in the truck
Not coincidentally, I keep all mine in the trunk. Sharing so you dont waste the same time I did.
I appreciate it! We legitimately may try to find a campground.
Here ya go: https://thedyrt.com/camping/mississippi/mississippi-clear-creek
Oh wow, thanks! Gonna check that out.
Yeah, I have to fly into Nashville.
Got time for coffee? (Also I reached out to Dennis for info on how/where I can send a formal thank you for the package. Incredibly kind. And the book... pretty awesome so far)
I hope the cat guards work for you.
Yessir! See ya in Oxford.
Love the tour but dang do I wish you were coming back to SF. Maybe next time...
No SF really surprised me, too. Not sure why.
P.P.S. Ain't bringing you shit to read.....
Do the kangaroo helpers need to sign up for a ticket as well? Purchased one just in case!
So excited about the event!!!
Oh and I'm loving the storyline......
Iiiiinteresting. I was contemplating relocating to Portsmouth ...
And...bought!
Bolt the doors...Bought my tickets to NYC event. 🤠
Bought my LA tickets! Did you pick all your kangaroo helpers already? If not, I’m interested!
That depends on your size. I think Dan had first dibs on the large. Can you wear a medium?
Unfortunately, there is nothing medium about me. Dan’s gonna make a hell of kangaroo!
Can’t wait for the big show on home turf!
Would you consider being a guest reader??
Of course! I’d be honored!
You're up.
Awesome!!! If you have a favorite you’d like me to read let me know. I’m thinking raccoon story?
And thank you so much!
Sweet! I got my ticket for Seattle. Thanks Chuck, see you then!
Front row seat booked for the NH show and book ordered for the Boston signing! Would it be possible to bring a few other books to have signed? Thank you!
Thank you. Bring the suckers, I'll sign them. It will be relaxed and cool.
Excellent!! Thank you so much for this!

Maybe both? But Portland isn’t far. You can make it.
It almost broke my brain to go to Camas. Portland is a little further 😬
I took the train once.

Lost not lose. Swear to shit I'm about to throw this phone onto the highway.

How about fire walking in a large flammable costume?
It's like you read my mind. I'm 100% on board with that.
